Learn to print soft and colorful images on fabric for your own creative projects. With the rapid advances in technology, the instructor will address the topics of printers, scanners, digital cameras, software, inks and fabric sheets available today. Bring your own good quality photo (3 in. x 5 in. or 4 in. x 6 in.) that you would like to print on silk or cotton for a class exercise. Some information will be in handouts so this can be a creative, hands-on workshop.
Students will learn about printers, scanners, digital cameras, software, inks and inkjet fabric sheets available today for printing on fabric.
Then, using anything students can find outside in the Arboretum along with fun materials provided by Val, the class will designe collages right on the glass of the all-in-one inkjet printer and print them on fabric. We'll also tea-stain a cotton print of the Declaration of Independence, and dye a mini silk fabric print with instant-set COLORHUE silk dyes.

I had the privilege of attending Val Vavrik's digital printing on textiles workshop several months ago. Val is an energetic, happy instructor with a ton of helpful information and a real gift for making people feel comfortable learning about and then trying out a completely new art form in digital printing on fabrics!
Val offers a plethera of examples to spark your own imagination for your own projects and gives students as much or as little hands on help as they request.
I felt I learned all I needed to know to go home and be successful, beyond the workshop, in completing projects on my own.
I highly recommend taking any class offered by Val Vavrik!
