Northwest Junior Pipe Band Instructors lead band to best season ever

Kevin Auld, Steve Roy, and Marcie MacRae have been volunteering with Northwest Junior Pipe Band for several years now, leading students to top finishes in Scotland in 2008, and now to the best combined season results in the band's history.

The band finished 1st place in Grade 4 at these competitions this year:

• BCPA Annual Gathering mini-band competition
• Bellingham Highland Games
• Sons of Scotland Highland Games
• BC Highland Games
• Skagit Valley Highland Games Day 1
• Skagit Valley Highland Games Day 2 for the Washington State Grade 4 Pipe Band Championships
• Portland Highland Games
• Pacific Northwest Highland Games Day 1
  

Eight in a row.

The band placed 2nd on Day 2 of the Pacific Northwest Highland Games and won more first place competitions than any other Grade 4 pipe band in BC, Washington and Oregon. Beyond this, the band challenged up a competition grade to Grade 3 and placed 2nd of 5 bands at the Skagit Valley Highland Games and 4th of 5 at the Portland Highland Games.

The band also competed at the Whidbey Island Highland Games, where the Grade 4 band placed first and the Grade 5 band placed 3rd of 5 bands and had a record setting fundraiser at our Banger Booth.

NWJPB's two Quartets won two first and second place finishes, and the Grade 4 drum corps won the West Coast Drum Corps Championships at the Pacific Northwest Highland Games.

A remarkable and record setting year for the band's talented solo competitors as well, with "aggregate" (best combined score over multiple events at a single competition) winners at every competition, and two soloists won the "Grand Aggregate" award for the highest overall score for the season.
