During this introductory course we will briefly go over the History, Production, Regions as well as Tasting and buying of Scotch Whisky. We may only scratch the surface of some of these facts, but this class is designed to show you how vast the world of Scotch is and how to enjoy it.
From the Gaelic word used to describe 'water of life', uisge beatha, to King George's royal approval. Through the rise of distillation and the first alembic stills will you begin to realize the beautiful nuances that make up these aqua vitae. Only now can you start to grasp the individuality of Blended, Vatted and Single Malt whisky.
We will take a virtual tour around the different regions of Scotland to enjoy whisky in all its glory. From the soft Lowland Whisky to the aggressive peaty Islay Scotch we will taste along the way. During the tasting we will be making some old standard cocktails as well as some new ones. In fact by the end of this course we will have designed a 'new' scotch drink that will showcase the scotch we use.
