5 Best Irish Lagers for St. Patricks Day
Posted by Sam on March 11, 2009
Don't tell this to your pub going friends on March 17th, but I have some bad news to share about St. Patrick. There's no connection between him and beer, nor was he even Irish. And furthermore, his name was not even Patrick.
But does that stop us from drinking green beer? ... didn't think so. So for those of you who'll be kicking back a pint of two this year, from cream ales to stouts, here's a list of 5 great beers that to fill your pitchers with this year.
1. Beamish Stout
A thick and creamy brew, has the malty aroma of a dry stout and is smoother than Guinness.
2. Guinness Drought
It's the gold standard. What can I say. What people don't usually know about Guinness is how low it is in calories. It has fewer calories than a Budweiser.
3. Caffrey's Irish Ale
Not to be eaten on a full stomach, or as the drink of the night, but Caffrey's Irish Ale is a smooth and filling stout with a milder taste than Guinness.
4. Murphy's Irish Stout
Dark as a cup of coffee, and viscous as pudding, Murphy's is a delicious stout with a rich chocolate flavor.
5. O'Hara's Celtic Stout (from Carlow)
O'hara's is thick and creamy with hints of coffee and malt. As one of the most flavorful Irish stouts, it makes a great pairing with meat stew, but declicious as it is, it's not for those wary of the bitter aftertaste.
