Description
This winter, we are pleased to offer the Memoir Writers Certificate Program in a compressed, six-month format in Bellevue (the program is also offered in a nine-month format in Seattle).
Develop skills to write about your life and learn techniques to create a compelling memoir. This program takes you through each stage of developing a book-length memoir or collection of essays: finding your true material, developing, structuring and editing that material, and seeking publication.
Memoir is a rich, dynamic form of writing. While not fiction, memoir uses fictional techniques - including dialogue, description, back-story, close-ups and stream-of-consciousness - to capture the truth of a particular moment, character or experience in your life. Memoir is a looking back, but it is more than a retrospective.
Taught by a published memoir writer, this program delves into the elements that make memoir compelling and shows you how to apply them to your own work.
Courses include a lively mixture of lecture, discussion, hands-on-exercises, small-group work, feedback on student writing and notable guest speakers - all designed to help you learn where the real story exists in your life and how to bring that tale to the page in a way that will keep readers up at night. Students of all ability and experience levels are welcome.
