Belly Dance Stimulus Act

Belly Dance Stimulus Act
wall-st

Belly Dance Stimulus of 2009
VDP Dance Studio in the Fremont Neighborhood of Seattle, Washington has come up with a bright and brave idea in today’s sea of economic turmoil. They are giving away and loaning belly dance classes to women without jobs! The idea is called the BELLY DANCE STIMULUS of 2009!

How did they come up with this idea?
According to Delilah, studio owner and visionary dancer;
We know we do good work here. We know belly dance is good for women’s self confidence, health, and mental attitudes. There are students, dancers and community members of means that do support our dance work. They let us know we are a valuable and important part of our dance community and as well to the larger social neighborhood. These folks come and pay for classes and even gift our studio from time to time. This goes a long way to inspire us forward.
A bit about us:
Visionary Dance Productions has been in business for over 20 years in Seattle. However, we opened our own dance studio in 2004 . We were just operating our business with in the guidelines of an average Seattle small business (a very small artist run business, mind you). We do our work and charge a price like everyone else. We sell instructional DVD’s and belly dance supplies online and offer belly dance classes on week...

Stage Makeup for Belly Dancers

Posted by Vahana on November 12, 2009

STAGE MAKEUP 101
By Vahana

“But I don’t want to look like a clown” –

Remember, this is for stage, but you still want to look like the beautiful woman you are.  So, no doll-like circles of blush on your cheeks!  No Dolly Parton streaks of neon blue across your eyelids.  Be comfortable with how you look.  Think “enhancing” your natural beauty so that your face will have definition from 50 feet away.  This will help if you have trouble getting that Miss American smile going when performing!

“But I don’t want to look like a street walker” –

That, is a preconception you will need to lose in order to feel comfortable in your stage makeup.

Think of it this way – if you saw Janet Jackson walking down the street in her full on-stage concert makeup, you would know it was for performance and never for a moment think she was a “street walker.”

“BUT I ALREADY KNOW HOW TO APPLY MAKE UP” –

This is different than what you would wear to go shopping at Walmart.  Coincidentally, it is also different from what you typically will find to buy at WalMart.  Check trendy stores for great colors that often sparkle too.

False eye lashes are a must!  Don’t be afraid of this.  In fact, it is good news for contact lens wearers or those with eye allergies.  The falsies are used to enhance your eyes from a distance far more than mascara could ever do and have the benefit of not flaking off into your eyes to irritate!  (Just...

All about Bellydance
You can do it!

Belly dance is one of the oldest documented dances known to man. It written and pictured on the walls of ancient Egyptian tombs thousands of years old. The name is derived from the Arabic word "belidi," meaning "rhythmic dance. The american name "belly dancing" entered U.S. awareness in the 1890's, when the Columbia Exposition in Chicago first brought Middle Eastern dance artists to the attention of the American public with a danced called "little Egypt. A savvy promoter named Sol Bloom advertised the scandalous "belly dancing" as a way of attracting more visitors to the entertainment of the world's fair. It worked! People lined up outside the gates to get a glimpse of...

Tribal Belly Dance is growing worldwide!

Posted by Skin Deep Dance on October 22, 2009

Imagine, a dance that connects women internationally through non verbal communication via American Tribal Style (ATS) Belly Dance.
This style of Belly Dance originated in San Francisco by Carolena Nericcio of FatChanceBellyDance only 2 decades ago. Now it's popularity has migrated from the West Coast to the East Coast and Canada. It's not what people think of when you say belly dance. It's "West meets East". ATS Belly Dance has now gained popularity in England, Australia, Norway, Finland and Russia. Who knows where it will...

Pregnancy and bellydance

Posted by Nancy McAndrew on October 05, 2009

Pregnancy and bellydance
fire_preg_pportrait

It is a widely held belief that the roots of what we today call Bellydance can be found in ancient fertility and birthing rituals.  This may well be the case.  Increasingly, modern women, midwives, doctors, and mothers are turning to Bellydance to help give comfort to pregnant women and to aid in and ease the birthing process.  Regardless of the truth behind Bellydance's origins, the practical application of the dance form is one each woman may evaluate on her own. With the rise in Bellydance classes offered as a way to improve general fitness, some of the more empowering and, dare we say, spiritual elements may be lost along the way.  In the experience of pregnancy and birth, many women report an inescapable sense of just these things.  To join Bellydance and Birth seems as natural as joining fringe to a hip belt.
The movements used in Bellydance and exercises taught in most Bellydance classes are predominantly involved in strengthening and increasing flexibility in the muscles at a woman's core: abdominals, obliques, and the pelvic floor.  The rhythmic motions used in Bellydance are similar to those that many woman begin to do spontaneously during childbirth. Bellydance increases a woman's sense of balance while it improves tone and flexibility.  Not only does the dance improve a woman's basic ability to balance, it teaches her how to shift and correct her balance as she moves through space--this is a skill many pregnant women find invaluable as their body grows and their center of gravity shifts.  Improved intuitive balance may help relieve the backaches and lower body discomfort so often connected with the last two trimesters of pregnancy. While exercise is generally deemed a good thing for pregnant women, the type of exercise engaged in must be gentle on the body and put no undue...
