  If you're looking for a great class with an amazingly kind, fun, talented, and respectful instructor, this is the one for you. Jalene is the kind of person who inspires her students and never makes them feel stupid. She is endlessly patient and always takes time to help. I tire of pretentious teachers who give you dirty looks for missing a class or who think they're so amazing they don't take time to remember what it's like to learn something new.
  This class has boosted my confidence and provided an amazing atmosphere in which to learn. I hope anyone who has ever been curious will give Jalene a try!

  Review of Jalene, December 21, 2008

  Jalene’s classes are a rare find for anyone seeking a welcoming environment with zero pretension. I have been a student of hers (on and off) since 2005, and I return because her classes consistently reward me with a body-positive awareness of motion and incentive to stay fit. Jalene’s deep knowledge of different styles of Eastern dance and music is evident. She knows what it’s like to be a learner because she’s continually studying her craft. Her approach varies from class to class so that even casual students such as myself find their horizons broadened. Facial expressions, rhythms, theatrical performance, candle-work, costuming, resistance of motion, self-choreography, anatomy, cultural geography, and general fitness are a few subjects I recall from Jalene’s lessons. I’ve been able to apply principles of movement and performance I’ve learned from Jalene to arenas outside of the dance studio. I miss her classes when I’m not taking them and would recommend her as an excellent teacher to anyone considering taking regular bellydance lessons. Perhaps I’ll see you in January at Groovy Dancer Studio, where I’ll be taking my next round of classes from Jalene.
