Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service.

Twitter asks one question, "What are you doing?" Users "tweet" their answers, which must be under 140 characters in length and can be sent via text, instant message or via your Twitter account on the web.

The shortness of tweets allow for informal information sharing among friends, coworkers or even complete strangers who might be interested in the subject of your tweet. Twitter members often exchange information with people one wouldn't normally connect with via e-mail or in person, allowing for ever-growing communities of like-minded folks.
