Review of Italian Dinner Party Cooking Class, March 29, 2009
Whoever said Pacifica lacks places for "foodies" to meet at has not yet met Stephanie Beack from Scrumptious Street. Last night I had one of my very best meals not only in Pacifica, but in the Bay Area...and I made it myself...okay with a little help from my friends and a lot of help from Stephanie.
What a great way to spend an evening. Stephanie rented out a wonderful space in Pacifica that includes an industrial kitchen with a lovely dining room. When we arrived at 5:00, Stephanie had a scrumptious antipasto plate waiting for us to nibble on.
After a little nibble and a glass of wine (we brought in our own wine and beer), the real fun begins. Stephanie introduces us to the menu and goes over what we will be making. She split us up into four teams and each team was responsible for a portion of prepping, cooking and serving the meal.
Last night we made Cannelloni Crostinis, Bucatini all' Amatriciana (pasta),zucchini, peas, and artichokes, Chicken Breast Sienna Style, and Baby Arugula and Fennel salad. All the food was healthy and dare I say scrumptious.
I can't remember a time that I had so much fun in the kitchen...this is not just a "girl" thing to do, last night we had 6 guys and 6 gals heating things up in the kitchen. What a great way to spend time with friends. We had so much fun we are doing a repeat...and we never do repeats!
Stephanie was such a great teacher and a good sport.
I highly recommend Stephanie and Scrumptious Street for parties such as this or for catering (Stephanie catered our Christmas Party)
Thank you Stephanie for making our evening such a great success!

If you want to discover a hidden gem, look up Scrumptious Street on the web. This is excellent cooking instruction in the beachside town of Pacifica, just south of San Francisco. Three of us were recently at Stephanie's house (she can come to yours as well) for a 3-hour cooking lesson learning how to make some spectacular vegetarian dishes. Everything was light, flavorful, and incredibly creative, with ingredients bought in-town (and Pacifica isn't know for gourmet cooking stores, as the City is). We had a relaxed evening and learned some new techniques. The best take-away message Stephanie imparted was to be more daring and experiment with flavor combinations. I want to drag my husband along next time for a lesson in various fish preparations! Check this place out if you're anywhere in the Bay Area - you'll love it!
