Private Violin Lessons
Subject: Violin
Beginning students will learn how to hold the instrument and create a beautiful sound. We will begin with a introductory book that will help you read music and become comfortable with playing different notes and rhythms. When you are ready, we will move on to performance pieces you can play for your own enjoyment or to show off to friends or family. At each lesson, I will show you what you need to do and give you the responsibility of practicing at home. Kids especially benefit from developing self-discipline through music.
For intermediate students, my goal is to help you become a better violinist. I will evaluate your needs and suggest certain books to help you develop a variety of skills and repertoire which will take you to the next level. Intermediate students typically will work on improving tone, vibrato, advanced techniques, and expression. We will work on performance pieces and practice sight-reading and playing by ear.
If you have something specific you would like to work on, such as orchestra pieces from school or a music book you are interested in, I will be more than happy to help you with it. I want to help you with whatever you need.

A Friendly and Reflective Teacher
I love music and helping kids and adults learn violin. I believe that anyone can play the violin skillfully. Rather than tell you to "play with more expression," as my old teachers used to say, I will give you concrete steps to create a beautiful sound. My goal is to help you develop skills and confidence by focusing on the foundations of playing violin - good tone, strong techniques, and practice. At any age, you will feel the satisfaction of being able to play any piece of music on your own.
I have 10 years experience teaching private violin lessons to individuals and small chamber groups. I have played violin for over 22 years including orchestras, quartets, church worship, youth bands, and weddings. My undergraduate degree is in psychology, and my master's is in education. I have also worked for many years as an ESL teacher and am very patient with new learners and kids.
