Your Beat & Fill Vocabulary

Posted by Tarik Abouzied on August 02, 2009

So you've been playing drums for a while now and are finally at the point where you can play along with music and generally keep good time. You could be playing in a band with some friends, along with your favorite recording or, if you're especially brave, at a jam session in town. Everything is sounding fine, but you're beginning to notice that you're playing the same beats and fills over and over and can't seem to think of or play anything else with messing up.
This is a common problem that I run into with most, if not all, of my students. I still get this problem myself from time to time, and often catch myself repeating ideas. The Value of an Instructor

Posted by Christopher Scherer on May 19, 2009

Now, more than ever before, there is an abundance of material, both free and for sale - audio, video, sheet music, books etc., on the internet for people who want to learn how to drum. I have looked into much of the DVD material and online lessons that are available and found some of them to be very well thought out and slickly packaged. • I really think learning an instrument is always better with an instructor. I'm sure people can learn on their own, and I know many who have, but I would think with an instructor you get to where you want to be quicker.

Thanks a lot for sharing, but next time you should add some photos or video to the article. One with those are actually shown on the homepage to get more recognition. Cheers!
