America's Engineering Crisis

Posted by Portland Wiz Kids on March 29, 2009

We need to focus on the children that are capable of contributing to the engineering workforce and encourage them to study engineering!  Without this critical population, which includes women, minorities, gifted and talented students, and "topsy-turvy" kids on the spectrum, we will have a real crisis in this country within 7 years.

This is why we do what we do!

    • Great interview! I love your call to action. It is true that because of globalization, we are faced with a real dilemma. If the youth in America are not motivated to excel in the sciences, much of the innovation and jobs to come in the future will go to our "competitors". I would argue though, that engineering is becoming sexy again, given all the press about Twitter, Facebook and other world changing social technology companies who's young engineering leaders are "hip".
