Beginning/Intermediate Fly Fishing

From Jack Hagan Jack Hagan

Subject: Portland Fishing Lessons

Skill level: Beginner, Intermediate

This class, by far our most popular, will take you through the steps to becoming a more productive fly- fisher. We start with a two hour in-shop classroom session where you will learn about the tackle, knots, rigging, and essentials needed to catch trout on Western streams, including the Deschutes. The following Saturday or Sunday--your choice--you will meet your guides in Maupin on the banks of the Deschutes river to start the on-river portion of your class. During this eight hour lesson you will learn where the fish live and dine in a stream. You'll also learn how to effectively present a fly to them, take samples of insect life, why we choose specific flies, when to use those flies, how to safely navigate the river, and how to play and land fish.

This class is held every month of the year (except December). Call or e-mail us for the current schedule. Some equipment is available.
