Spey Casting Lessons

From Kaufmanns Streamborn Tigard Kaufmanns Streamborn Tigard

Subject: Portland Fishing Lessons

Skill level: Beginner, Intermediate

My classes are designed to help you become a better caster and fisherman. With Private and Group lessons available, lessons are designed for new to intermediate anglers interested in developing an understanding of Spey/Two-handed casting. More proficient and consistent casting gives anglers better line and fly control and the ability to cover more water and thus more fish.

We will cover the following during our class:

-Four casts that the angler needs a working knowledge of in order to fish for steelhead and salmon: Single Spey and Switch Cast, Double Spey, Snap-T, and the Perry Poke

- Casting from river left or right and an understanding of which cast to make under the prevailing wind and current conditions

- The basics of grip, arm position and movements, and proper loading the spey rod

- A discussion of rods, lines, and reels and how they apply to your fishing

No equipment is needed to participate other than clothing.

All classes are done on a local Portland-area river, usually the Sandy or Clackamas.
