I am looking for a good grading software to use to record and calculate grades for my students. I need something free that I can download online that is easy to learn to use and will always be free (i.e. not a free "trial" software.)

    Anyone using anything they like?

    Thanks!

It is said that SPSS is very useful,
but i have not used it before.
Would you like to download it and have a try.

I looked SPSS up on google and it is confusing to me. If I am looking at the right thing (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences?) it seems like there are so many different versions (all used for different things it looks like) that I don't even know where to start. Also it looks like you have to pay for it and some packages are quite expensive.

I just need something super simple to do the most basic stuff because I am no longer interested in keeping a paper record (though I will still keep a paper trail) and when I typed "free grading software" into google a lot of different ones came up but I couldn't really tell which looked good or anything. If no one else has any feedback I will just start randomly trying some of those.

Sorry Sally, i can not help you further, for i am not familiar with it, and i do not use any software like this.
I just heard that before. I also meet with difficulties when searching it,
for it looks just like a COMPLICAGTED course.
It seems that a try is proposed.

I think SPSS overkill, not directly applicable to your needs, and certainly not free. Here are two options that come to mind - Engrade and Snapgrades.

Engrade (http://www.engrade.com/) might be what you're looking for. It's completely free, easy to use, and great user interface. I recommend that or snapgrades.net though I'm partial to EnGrade.

    From their site description:
"Engrade is a free set of web-based tools for educators allowing them to manage their classes online while providing parents and students with 24/7 real-time online class information. It's private, secure, truly free, and unbelievably easy to use - so join over 50,000 teachers and start using Engrade today."

If you don't need parents and students to access the results: Snapgrades.net might also be worth a look. Their freeware option allows you to maintain and print your gradebook online, completely free.

Both of these are web based software, so you'll need an internet connection, but you can export the information to your computer for safe keeping. Free desktop gradebooks for your home PC may be available, but they will not nearly as feature-rich or robust as the two sites mentioned above.
