Glass Fusing is an Ideal Craft to Start a Creative Life
Deborahs first time at our Fuse It Studio Workshop
Today I started another session of classes at BIG ARTS on Sanibel. We have been teaching there since 10 years and most people come to our workshops by word to mouth or better yet show and tell.I'm always amazed when new participants are telling me about their lack of talent or lack of creativity.

Why do they come to a class that one would think requires both. My only explanation is; they have seen the finished glass pieces from friends and neighbors, who started the class with the same words.

So if you feel you would like to make something with your hands, give glass fusing and kiln forming a try. Here are a few pictures of first time pieces. When you have a minute, please visit our web site www.kaiserlee.com - you will find more interesting information and pictures.

Another good  way to get a first look at a new craft is a book. And guess what, I wrote 2 of them - "Introduction to Glass Fusing" and "Fuse It" A Continuing Journey in Kiln Worked Glass.  Both books have gotten many good reviews and fellow  instructors are telling me that they refer them  to their students.  Many libraries have both of them available for their patrons.

But you should also try to find a place to do some fusing of your own. I have a tendency to buy how to books  ... I own about 5 books about the art of Paper Making and have yet to make some.

Welcome to the glass world - it is a fun place to be

    • Isn't that the case with all emerging artists? I remember looking at the Sunday funnies saying I wanted to draw those and stepped into classes to get a good idea of what to do to get to that point.

Thanks a lot for sharing, and the photo of your work looks like it should be in the shop, Fireworks.

    • What are we doing or not doing, as parents, as teachers when something as elemental as creativity is seen as reserved for just a few? I'm not surprised at your new students' comments, which is more of a commentary on our society, perhaps.
