Managing GMAT Stress: Seven Useful Tips

It's an oft-quoted fact that the most common fear in this country is of public speaking. There you are, standing in front of a crowd, palms sweating, heart racing, voice cracking and every visible part of your body shaking. No wonder more Americans fear this scenario than fear flying, spiders, or (my personal phobia) snakes. The conventional wisdom for battling stage fright is to imagine your audience in their underwear...or better yet, naked.
Unfortunately for GMAT test-takers with anxiety, hardly any relief comes from imagining Jane, who is running at a rate of five miles/hour from the east, and Dick, who is walking at a rate of three miles/hour from the west, in their skivvies. So how do you battle those test-day butterflies (and the sleepless nights that proceed them)? Why, with the following seven steps!
1. Prepare
The majority of anxiety stems from the unknown, the "what ifs" that float around in your head. The more you know, the fewer "what ifs" to be had. Know the format of the GMAT inside and out. Know which sections come first, second, and third. Know the rules regarding scratch paper and bathroom breaks. Most importantly, study. Know the material that will be tested and how it will be tested. If you are a master of the information covered on the GMAT, then anything the test throws at...
Having a Strategy for GMAT Preperation
Posted by Knewton on September 25, 2009
In the heyday of paper-based tests, the cure-all for the common ill of "getting stuck" on a question was simple: Skip the question and simply move on. The rationale behind this strategy was that work done for other questions on the test might illuminate simple key concepts that were overshadowed by things like early-morning drowsiness, test anxiety, tip-of-the-tongue syndrome, etc.
Things have changed. The GMAT, like many other standardized tests, is administered on a computer. Though the question formats have remained roughly the same, the switch to computer-based-testing has rendered the "skip the question" strategy obsolete. On a computer-based-test, it is impossible to skip a question. The best that a time-constrained student with a total conceptual block can do is to guess and hope for the best outcome of what is...

This is great information. As a GMAT Coach, are there any essentials that one needs to know to do well on the GMAT. If someone needed to know 3 tips on how to do well on the GMATs, what would they be? Maybe a good idea for an article. Cheers!

Nice Thought - I will come up with a detailed article very soon!
But to keep stuff simple, to get a good score in GMAT
1. Work hard to get a good idea on the basics in MATH and its applications.
2. Take as many practice tests as possible and do a thorough introspection on your mistakes. Identify your weak areas that you are having issues with & work on them.
3. Prepare a prefect plan and schedule for your preparation. Give a good 1 month time.More in a detailed article.
