Review of Blues Harmonica Workshop (Beginner and Intermediate), September 21, 2009
The Blues Harmonica Workshop is a fantastic opportunity to learn for anyone that likes blues harmonica and blues music. The staff is really excellent. They are professional performers and teachers. I came there to learn harmonica. The music really is exciting, as well as lots of fun to play. The workshop is held in the south end and has that authentic southern flavor. There have been several instructors there and I found all of them to be excellent!
Blues harmonica player and instructor Jon Morris who traveled the world with legendary Mississippi Bluesman RL Burnside has a unique style of playing that goes so well with the style of blues I want to play. In my band I am organizing I’ve used a lot of the stuff I learned at the Blues Harmonica Workshop. People come up to me and want to know where I learned to play. Jon Morris specializes in the harmonica styles of the Mississippi Hill country that he learned from Bluesman RL Burnside. In my lessons with him at the Blues Harmonica Workshop he showed me stuff through the use of charts and transcriptions that I couldn’t have got from anyone else.
Warren “Delta Blues” Murray is a knowledgeable, professional excellent performer and teacher. I first heard him when I attended the 2001 Robert Johnson Blues Festival at the University of Washington. Inspiring in performance. He is truly great on both harmonica and slide guitar.
I arrived on time at the well-lit, sunny music studio and entered the spacious room. My instructor was already there, waiting for me. I have had some experience with blues harmonica, so I “know a thing or two” already. However, I could see right away that Warren could take me places on the harmonica that I hadn’t been to before. He listened to my goals and listened to me play and showed me some stuff right away that helped me. He wrote out a plan and showed me what we would be doing for the next several weeks.
Warren is a long time performer. His track record goes back to the 60’s and 70’s
He’s been performing since that time and he received credit as a songwriter on local
Northwest recordings back in the days of LP records. He currently has several
well received CD’s available. In theses classes, students can sign up for beginner or intermediate levels. Once you get past the introductory skills, you can learn tunes by some of the legendary harmonica players, Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, James Cotton and others. Each style has it’s own challenges and we tackle them in the lessons and classes. Rating: excellent, professional, and knowledgeable.

Review of Blues Harmonica Workshop (Beginner and Intermediate), September 10, 2009
I have been a harmonica student of Warrens’ for over a year and I find the harmonica instruction he gives to be excellent. His lessons are well planned and I have steadily increased my music skill as I have continued with him.
The lessons are held at a music store appropriately frequented by Blues and
African-American Gospel music lovers. The Blues originated in Mississippi so there couldn’t be a better place to learn Blues harmonica than the music store located in South Seattle.Warren is a fine teacher and performer on both Blues harmonica and guitar. He is able to bring out the best of my harmonica playing in the lesson. I leave the music lesson knowing exactly what to practice and look forward to the next lesson the following week
I plan on performing in public soon as I gain more confidence. I plan on forming my own Blues band with some good friends of mine.
I would highly recommend Warren as a Blues harmonica teacher to anyone who is serious about learning.
