I want to learn to make my own earrings

Why do you want to learn jewelry making?
I have a few very talented friends who make their own jewelry and they always look so fabulously stylish. While I'm not interested in selling jewelry, I wouldn't mind have a few fun unique pieces of my own, or to make earrings to give away as gifts.
What do you think would be most challenging?
While I know you can buy ready-made kits, I feel like these would turn out rather ho-hum. It seems to me that creating beaded earrings that are even (not have one side a lot higher or lower than the other) and also creating something that looks high quality would be the two most difficult things.
Describe your ideal instructor:
I'd be interested in someone who offers individual or small group classes that are super hands on. Also it would be fun if after each class, you were able to come out with skills to make jewelry in the future, but also with something that you've made (like 1 pair of earrings per class).
I found this jewelry-making class that I thought could be great. Maybe I'll check it out. Thoughts?
Do any of you make jewelry at home?
Here are some of my favorite artists:
