Break the plane with repousse! Come learn the ancient art of pushing detailed bas-relief out of flat metal sheet. Create 3-dimensional work without carving, casting, or soldering. Repousse technique gives the metalsmith a new set of skills for studio problem-solving, including creative cold connections, maximizing volume when metal is scarce, setting stones without bezels or prongs, and adding strength through shape. This class will touch on unsupported repousse in foil ("Armenian" repousse), but will focus on pitch based, thick metal, deep-relief repousse. Class will be broken into one three-hour tool-making session Monday night, followed by an intensive all-weekend repousse demonstration and workshop. No experience necessary although basic metalworking skills helpful.
