Breakdance Private Workshops
Los Gatos, CA
Subject: Breakdancing
Breakdance, or b-boying, is one of the most demanding, creative, and athletic dance there is. It is an “urban” dance that was conceived in Bronx, New York in the 1970’s, but it was developed worldwide. From the Bay Area to L.A., from Japan to Germany, the dance has matured tremendously, becoming a worldwide phenomenon. B-boying is part of the true Hip-Hop culture where there are no racial, ethnicity, or language barriers. There are many origins of b-boying, some of the influences come from salsa, rhumba, swing, lindy-hop, tap dance, gymnastics, martial arts, yoga, and a lot more.

In my beginning to intermediate workshops, things that will be covered will include:
-As a beginner learn up to 100 moves within a few months
-Getting familiar with different hip hop dance styles
-Expanding the hip hop/b-boying vocabulary
-Creating combinations or sets
-Dissecting music
-Making use of tumbling as transitions
-Developing variations on techniques
-Brushing up freeze techniques
-Learning power (spinning) skills
My goal in my workshops is to develop individuality, creativity, and self-confidence. As we progress we are also working on fine motor skills and our ability to overcome obstacles or challenges. The one thing really great about this dance is that b-boying is only as hard as a dancer wants it to be and anybody can take ownership of this dance.
