skills to identify and correct metabolic imbalances and nutritional deficiency. These
techniques will assist students in answering three big questions:
•
Is there a deficiency?
•
Will a particular nutrient work for that client?
•
When is the client nutritionally sufficient?
Dietary Considerations & Supplemental Support- covers dietary suggestions and
nutritional supplementation protocols to support healthy physiological functions and
balanced biochemistry.
Introduction Introduction provides you with the important concepts of functional nutrition and an overall occupational concept of the Nutritional Therapist Training Program. Module 1: The Basics of Nutrition This module provides information on the framework of the program. Contents include: basics of nutrition, evolution of the modern diet, and guidelines for proper nutrition. Nutritional Therapy Association, Inc.® Module 2: The Client Consultation Process Module two provides you with the skills necessary to work effectively with your clients from the initial interview to the follow-up visit. Module 3: Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology This Module offers you a general understanding of human physiology and structure as well as structural organization and anatomical position. Module 4: Digestion & Elimination The focus of this module is to understand the physiology of the gastrointestinal tract and how to restore the health of digestive systems by identifying needs for nutritional support. Digestion takes the most significant role in determining what nutrients are taken into the body and what substances leave the body—this is fundamental to nutritional therapy. Chinese and Ayurvedic medicines emphasize correlation between healthy digestive function and health of a person. Module 5: Blood Sugar Regulation Blood sugar regulation is the main focus of this module, and you will learn to assess and to reverse the blood sugar dysregulation with nutritional therapy. Americans on average consume over 170 pounds of refined sugar each year causing a national epidemic of diabetes and obesity. The excessive consumption of carbohydrates and refined sugar is not only a disturbance to the cardiovascular system, but also to the entire endocrine system. Module 6: Fatty Acids This module highlights the necessity of essential fatty acid balance on the musculoskeletal, endocrine, cardiovascular and immune systems. Module 7: Mineral Balance This module highlights the necessity of mineral balance as it relates to pH, proper nerve conduction and muscle function and tissue growth. Module 8: Hydration This module emphasizes the importance of dehydration and how to effectively prevent dehydration. Dehydration is the most common nutritional deficiency among Americans. This module also focuses on the importance of kidney health as it relates to proper elimination, maintaining mineral balance, and helping to regulate blood cell production. Module 9: The Endocrine System This module will examine the dysfunction of endocrine organs, as it directly relates to the endocrine balance. Our endocrine system consists of complex relationships. You will learn to identify and correct hormonal imbalance through addressing the foundations covered in earlier modules. You will also learn concepts of endocrine individuality and acquire skills to treat each client effectively. Module 10: Allergies & Immune Weaknesses Techniques will be taught to identify the root causes along with the mechanisms of the immune response. More and more people develop chronic allergies in today’s society, but there are ways to reverse this dilemma with nutritional therapy. Keys to maintaining a healthy immune system is to remove the stressor and strengthen the underlying weakness, further building a strong foundation. Module 11: Cardiovascular Weaknesses The focus of this module is to identify the underlying causes of cardiovascular dysfunction and address the causes before pathology develops. Seventy-five percent of the American population is diagnosed with cardiovascular problems by the end of their lives. Module 12: Nutritional Detoxification You will learn the necessary protocols to establish a successful detoxification program. Detoxification happens continuously. It is the process of cleaning, nourishing, and resting the body from the inside out. Module 13: Other Nutritional Considerations This module will cover; successful weight loss programs, nutritional components essential to mental and emotional health, nutritional impacts associated with common pharmaceuticals, and the basics of metabolic typing. Module 14: Business Basics Module 15 covers the basics of running a nutritional consulting practice, legal issues, insurance, client management, office procedures and more. To be a successful Nutritional Therapist students need general practice management skills, as well as clinical expertise. Written and Practical Exams In order to obtain a Certificate of Completion students must attend 90% of lectures/workshop sessions, complete all homework (Anatomy & Physiology and Definitions for 13 of the 14 Modules), write reviews on the 8 required reading texts, perform & document a community project, conduct 2 client/practitioner interviews (and document) outside of class on “clients” the second half of the class, pass the written midterm, written final and final functional exam. The practical exam is designed to demonstrate that each student has the necessary skills and knowledge to be certified by the Nutritional Therapy Association.
