Age specific classes
All of our classes and training at the Academy of Modern Martial Arts is age group specific and our children’s classes are even more tailored to produce exceptional results.

Children have special needs and face special challenges that are unique to their age and social circumstances.

Small class sizes
We limit enrollment in all of our group classes at here at AMMA to make certain that each child receives high quality instruction appropriate for each individual. Additionally, we also break children’s classes down into smaller age ranges and where possible, skill range within age groups so that our children’s classes can be as focused as possible on the specific developmental range of each group.

Our children’s classes focus on several areas in addition to the valuable self defense skills.

Fun is an integral part of learning for children. Our classroom exercises and curriculum is designed to be both fun and functional to maximize effective learning and retention.

Confidence is gained from developing coordination and greater command of their young bodies.

Discipline is taught through focused tasks and specialized objectives.

Respect and Cooperation is taught through group and partner based activities that stress safety and mutual respect.

Safety is taught through primary awareness of situations and decision making.

The structure of each class will remain roughly the same for the comfort and ease that comes with predictability, while the content of each class will be varied and changing to maintain interest and develop well rounded skills.

Review of Academy of Modern Martial Arts, October 04, 2008

I have been a student at The Academy of Modern Martial Arts for seven years. The training and support I have gained have immeasurable value to my life, whether at work, home or at school. My ability to handle my workload as a full time college student has been greatly enhanced by the skills I have learned as a martial artist. My instructors are caring and competent; the community that they have created is welcoming and genuinely cares about the well-being of every student.

The school is affordable and conveniently located in downtown Lake Oswego in the Lake Place shopping center behind Petco. Class offerings range from Tai Chi, and Karate to Grappling (Mixed Martial Arts) and Kick-boxing; most classes are in the evening with some day time and Saturday classes. Private instruction is also offered at various times. I highly recommend AMMA and it’s instructors to everyone.

  • "Great training and great people!"

Review of Academy of Modern Martial Arts, September 15, 2008

I have been a student at the Academy of Modern Martial Arts (AMMA) for nearly 7 years and as a result of my time spent studying at AMMA, the quality of my life has greatly increased. I can say without a doubt, that my time spent there has enhanced my capabilities as a martial artist, and human being.

My instructor, Chris Boyer is one of the finest people I have come into contact with. I would recommend him as an instructor to anyone who would like to learn martial arts. He is highly skilled in teaching, and has been studying martial arts for nearly two decades. He’s also just generally a great guy. Sifu Kristine who teaches children from 4-17 years old has a way to help kids learn that I think few people possess. I have assisted with some of her classes over the years. And after watching her students grow under her instruction, I highly recommend her as a youth instructor. She is one of the kindest people I have ever met.

I hope this review is helpful, I also hope you decide to come by the school and meet these people who have I have chosen to spend years of my time and attention with. They are good people and I am grateful to know them.

    Good luck in your search!
