The Healing Circle works to keep Native families safe and to educate Native people in an effort to end the silence around domestic and sexual violence. We believe that the threat of violence has not always been the norm in Native families and we know that many of our Tribes and Nations had strict codes about how to deal with this issue. Violence in the family was not tolerated, and people who chose to batter their partner were never considered for positions of leadership because they could not be trusted to care for all of the people in a good way. The goal of the Native American Family Healing Circle is to help our Native peoples to re-learn these cultural traditions and put an end to Domestic Violence in our Native communities. No one should have to live in fear in his or her own home.
