Learn to weld with Rusty Oliver at HazardFactory on Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. The introductory classes are $100 per person. Classes are designed to orient students to the machines and establish their confidence level so that students can continue welding on their own. The class focuses on MIG and stick welding, and the safe use of common shop tools.
Students can reasonably expect to walk out of the class with the knowledge and confidence to choose and buy (or rent) a welding machine, and safely undertake a completely new endeavor. Metalwork is a lot like having super-powers, you'll like it!
I am an industrial artist and have been welding professionally for 13 years. I am certified for Structural Unlimited welding, and run my own high-end fabrication business. I weld and work every conventional metal and have taught casting, machining, blacksmithing, and metalwork. I have been able to teach hundreds of students how to make very professional welds in a highly compressed period. I recently taught the Coyote School students as young as ten at Pratt. Every age, gender, and orientation of person is welcome! Students are encouraged to take as many classes from me as they like. My sole object is to teach you what you want to know, (and earn a living, of course.) I will gladly teach TIG, plasma, oxy-fuel welding and cutting.
I can also schedule classes for groups of three and up at any time except Thursday evenings. I can be hired to consult on projects on an hourly basis. This welding intensive is also a great team building exercise or birthday surprise!
Casting courses planned for the near future!
Some of my work can be seen at www.hazardfactory.org
Please contact me via e-mail for a detailed syllabus, and to schedule.
Thanks!

The class showed us everything I would have wanted to learn as an introduction to welding, including materials, applications, and tips on equipment if you're planning to rent or purchase your own. I knew very little about how to weld before the class. The instructor was clear, comprehensive, thoughtful, good with people. Great to learn in the instructor's own fabrication shop and get a glimpse of how he works.

This class was a great fun way to spend a Saturday. Rusty was an excellent teacher and set the class up in a logical way that gave us the confidence to start welding immediately. We went over fundamental metal information and then we learned from watching. Soon we were off and welding for the remaining 4 hours. Rusty was extremely encouraging and seemed to enjoy answering all of our questions. I would definitely take another class from him.
