I have openings for one-hour private music composition and songwriting lessons on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Capitol Hill. Whether you have never written a piece of music or song before or are a seasoned writer/composer who wants to go further or in new directions, I can help you learn new techniques, expand your knowledge of harmony and music theory and become familiar with all of the tools at the disposal of the professional composer.

All styles of music are welcome - I have a background in jazz theory and composition, classical and new music, electronic and computer-generated music, rock and pop, as well as scoring for film, theater and dance.

We can use either the piano and the guitar or a combination of the two in your lessons, and you will be encouraged to write new material each week, and I will prepare exercise studies for you to complete as well.

I recommend weekly hourly lessons to begin with, and we can cater the scheduling to your own requirements as we go along. I have many weekly students as well as those who have lessons every other week. It depends on how much time you will have each week to practice between lessons - I recommend a minimum of 2-3 hours per week to get the most from your lesson dollars.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to hearing from you!

Review of Andrew Boscardin, April 01, 2009

Andrew has a gentle approach to teaching guitar: available, accessible, patient.

He is encouraging me to learn to read music, to make beautiful sounds, to play for my own enjoyment. Andrew gets my pace and nudges me forward.

I am learning Annie Laurie and Barbara Allen, delighful traditional Scottish Folk Songs.

I have put some verses to music, using arpeggio exercises he has taught me. Exploring my creative musical skills.

  • "Great teacher for semi-experienced players"

Review of Andrew Boscardin, December 14, 2008

After ten years of playing guitar, self-taught, I decided that in order to progress as a player and develop the improvisational and lead guitar skills I wanted, I needed to go back and actually learn the fundamentals. I specifically went out looking for a jazz-oriented, method-based teacher, and Andrew's been great. In six-weeks, we've made great progress: I've not only learned to read music well enough to start site reading some music at home, but I've improved my technique a great deal and am starting to understand jazz structures. Andrew's been especially good at assessing where I am as player as well as listening to self-identified weaknesses, and crafting lessons and homework to meet my needs. I'm intonating better, have better form, and am just generally playing better.
