College Algebra

Subject: Algebra

This College Algebra online course provides students with a working knowledge of college-level algebra and its applications, emphasizing methods for solving linear and quadratic equations, word problems, and polynomial, rational, and radical equations and applications.

Students perform operations on real numbers and polynomials, and simplify algebraic, rational, and radical expressions. Like other online College Algebra courses, course material also examines arithmetic and geometric sequences and discusses linear equations and inequalities.

Students learn to graph linear, quadratic, and absolute value, and piecewise-defined functions. They solve and graph exponential and logarithmic equations. Other College Algebra online topics include solving applications using linear systems, and evaluating and finding partial sums of a series.

StraighterLine provides students with a new option for required college courses built on the expertise of seasoned, respected and proven educators and partners.

StraighterLine is led by CEO and Founder Burck Smith. Prior to starting StraighterLine, Burck co-founded and ran SMARTHINKING, an online tutoring service used by hundreds of colleges. He is joined by education industry veterans David Parento and Josef Katz.

StraighterLine's Advisory Board is composed of distinguished higher education administrators and industry leaders.

StraighterLine's course materials come from McGraw-Hill and were originally adapted for StraighterLine's format by SMARTHINKING's education team. Additionally, StraighterLine's courses undergo rigorous scrutiny by respected academics and administrators at our Partner Colleges, by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) -- a federally recognized accreditor, and by the American Council on Education's (ACE) Credit Recommendation Service.
