This class offers four quarters of ongoing instruction in painting with the instructor. Each course will build on the previous quarter. The courses are designed to provide continuity and mentored development with a single instructor and the opportunity to build on skills and concepts, with lots of individual attention. The curriculum includes drawing and color theory in this flexible class with plenty of time to practice your painting and to develop an eye for composition. The class will include working from carefully selected still life set-ups and reproductions of existing paintings. You will focus on direct and indirect approaches to painting such as applying washes, glazes, scumbles, and impasto. Color mixing, paint distribution and expressiveness and development of compositional ideas will also be taught. You will also examine past and modern masters to learn from their ideas and techniques and then make them your own. Prerequisite: Winter quarter Acrylic Fundamentals
