Linda Womack, author of Embracing Encaustic: Learning to Paint with Beeswax (http://www.embracingencaustic.com) with be the instructor for this fast paced class. This intermediate class is for those already comfortable working with wax.
There are several ways of adding texture to your encaustic paintings and we'll explore many of them in this full day class. You can build up texture by encasing different materials in between layers of wax, using brush techniques to build up sections of your surface and specialty tools to remove others. It takes many layers to properly build up texture -- but it's worth the patience! I'll teach you the equivalent of a dry brush technique using wax and show you how you can break (or at least bend) the "fuse-every-layer" rule.
Another quick and easy method of adding texture is embossing -- pressing materials into the wax while it's still warm to leave unique impressions on your wax surface. This can be done with inexpensive household materials and even fresh plants. It's a little tricky to know when to press and pull, but I'll make sure you have the timing right by the end of the day.
A beautiful way to enhance your surface texture is with pigment sticks. Think of this as oil paint in stick form that can be applied directly to your wax paintings. By incorporating pigment sticks with texture, you can add depth to your encaustic paintings not possible with wax alone. We'll explore how best to fill incised lines, glaze with subtle color and draw directly onto the wax surface with vibrant colors.
All supplies will be provided and you will leave class with 2 - 3 finished projects. All supplies will be provided except your personal imagery. See more information and photos of previous classes at http://www.lindawomack.com

Review of Linda Womack, November 16, 2009
Linda is just the all-round perfect teacher. She is so creative, very patient. She intuitively knows what is needed for each individual student... she knows when to jump in and when to step back... always there to inspire -- love that! Her instruction is easy to follow and doesn't even mind when she's asked a million questions about things she already covered ;-) All this and she's fun too! More classes, more classes, more classes... love encaustic from Linda... soak it up!
