    Lisa Sanchez is an amazing teacher, as well as a superb guitarist and singer. She is encouraging, kind and FUNNY! Lisa knows a huge variety of styles of music (folk, jazz, blues, Latin, classical, popular, ...). Then she is able to break down the learning of songs in these different styles into easily mastered steps. She is incredible in her ability to teach jazz improvisation. Lisa has a special knack for using a variety of approaches to guide her students through blocks of any kind. She is supportive and able to show where improvement is needed without ever making students feel bad, even when we're behind in our practicing.

    Lisa can figure out songs very quickly from recordings, write music, transpose songs into different keys and arrange music for songs that a student has composed. She also is very well versed in computer aids ("Band in a Box," "Garage Band" and various other software for musicians).

    I was not a beginner when I started lessons with Lisa, but I can hear her with beginning students sometimes while I'm waiting for my lesson. She adapts herself well to helping students of whatever level of expertise.

    Lisa is very generous and creative with her individualized lesson plans, so no matter what I'm learning, I always go away from a single lesson with a huge amount of material to help me practice and learn.

    It's really fun to play with Lisa in lessons because she is such a gifted musician!

With extensive experience as a bandleader, soloist, and freelance jazz and pop musician, guitarist / vocalist Lisa Sanchez is a perennial on the San Francisco Bay Area music scene. She has performed in many different settings including clubs, concerts, hotels, restaurants, theater bands, recordings, and commercials. Highlights include a seven year run with her own trio at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco; pit work with the Urban Theater, Julian Theater, and Theater on the Square; a CD recording, "Vocalist/Guitarist " (1990); and eleven consecutive years in the entertainment line up of the People in Plazas concert series in San Francisco.

Lisa holds a B.A. in music from San Francisco State University and was a member of the music faculty at San Francisco State University from 1996-2004. She is currently on the teaching staff of Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto.
