We have witnessed many examples of extraordinary parenting. In the face of extreme adversity, parents call up untapped personal resources and strengths to help their child and their family. They often display enormous courage . They reject the limitations that diagnosis can give because they sense and know the capacity their individual child has for healing and growing. They seek to truly "see" their child.
They view their child as whole and capable no matter how severe a wound, developmental delay, or seeming disability. We can identify the qualities of extraordinary parenting and we can teach and support each other in being the best possible parent. This presentation will be practical and useful for both parents and professionals. We will identify what makes a good quality parent and how we might begin as a community of parents, grandparents and professionals to raise the bar in how we care for our children.
