Review of Ron McFarland, August 01, 2009
How many chances do aspiring pianists have to learn from a person who studied the instrument with the great Ethel Leginska - and learned to compose from Arnold Shoenberg?! And, what's the chance that this person will care more about the beauty of sound you make on the piano than hitting every note without a mistake? And, is it even remotely possible that you could learn from this distinguished teacher while sitting in his beautiful studio overlooking the bay in Tiburon, playing one of his two Steinways that sit side-by-side like perfect partners? Well, it's all possible with Ron McFarland - a wonderful, kind man who has taught me (an intermediate student) not only to play the piano, but to love music more than ever. Bravo!

My son has been taking piano from Ron McFarland for 7 years now and boy you should see him play! Ron is nothing short of a great teacher- he's extremely experienced teaching kids and adults from beginners to very advanced as well as highly gifted pianists. Ron is a very nice and patient teacher but he also somehow manages to instill really good technique so if you stick with the piano you have a great foundation thanks to Ron. He knows and has played all the great pieces so you always are learning some wonderful piece. He is great about teaching music theory and sight reading along the way so you get a very well-rounded understanding of music and of the history of various composers too.
