"Kind, Warm and Cheerful Professionalism"
Review of Anne Bergsma, February 26, 2009
Hello, my name is Teresa Polizzi. I'm 18 years old, and I graduated from North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo, WA this past June 2008. I briefly attended Central Washington University (CWU) for three weeks during Fall Quarter, but I had to leave suddenly due to life-threatening injuries I sustained in a very serious car accident. A Running Start student in high school, and I re-enrolled at Olympic College (OC) in Bremerton, WA for Winter Quarter because I still could not return to CWU. I will graduate with my AAS Degree in June. I have applied to the University of Washington, Loyola University Chicago, and Tulane University. Although I am an Italian Studies major, I have maintained musical study at OC, and music always has been and always will be a huge part of my life.
But enough about me. I really am writing to tell you about how much the amazing Anne Bergsma, Soprano, changed my life. Anne and I met for a free trial lesson in the early part of 10th grade when I first truly began to develop a serious interest in singing, and I was very impressed by not only her kind, warm, and always cheerful professionalism but also by her emphasis on technique, doing what feels right, working with your body, and actual scientific, anatomical explanations for how to sing. I was hooked. She is fun and funny and makes vocal practice fun! And I saw results, a change in my own voice and confidence in my own voice. Yes, it did take time, and I studied with her for three years, but I could feel and hear an obvious growth in the maturity of my own voice. She was honest about the harsh realities of the music industry (back when I still contemplated being a music major, but for flute), but she has also been a constant inspiration and gave me the motivation and resources to just go for it all the time. She has been by my side and supported me through more than I want to say on here, and I honestly consider her as much a close friend as I do a first-rate teacher. In fact, she commuted for almost 2 hours this past June to attend my Flute Senior Recital! Her prescence meant so much to me, especially because throughout all those years she had known that flute was my main instrument and then she was finally able to hear me play. It was very sad for me, and I think for both of us, when I was forced to discontinue lessons with Anne after she was no longer able to offer them on the Kitsap Peninsula. However, if I attend the UW in the Fall, I would very much like to start up again!
Anyway, this has been a long, rambling rant about Anne, but it is all true and I wanted you to know how she has affected me. Thank you for your time and consideration in reading my testimonial. I hope it helps.
