I am Sharon Angle and I teach private lessons from my home studio in Bothell, WA just 1/2 mile off of HWY 405 and exit 22.

Piano Lessons ~ beginning to intermediate level pianists - Styles are classical with some jazz, pop/rock - Studies include sight reading, aural skills, technique (finger exercises, scales in the circle of 5ths, posture), sight reading, music theory & history, harmony and style interpretation, composition, form & style analysis

Children's Music Studies ~ as young as 4 and 5 years old - this curriculum is considered an introduction to musical studies which includes learning about the piano, beginning music theory to become aware of how to start sight reading music, vocal skills for breathing, the production of sound, and learning rhythms by clapping, dancing and making "noise" in rhythm. Lots of laughter and silly things along the way.

Children learn at their own pace. How far they go with their theory depends upon many factors; age, focus, hand/eye coordination, logical thinking, aural skills, basic reading skills, and most importantly - practice.

I teach private lessons, workshops and seminars, master classes for my studio, and am a consultant for chorales and ensembles. I have also been a guest director for college musical theatre but no longer travel due to my student load. I have always sung and began performing professionally at age 15. I studied piano on and off through the years from the time I was 4 years old. I had to give up playing several years ago as a severe shake affected my hands. I have a professional accompanist for my studio and is willing to work with you here in the studio, privately, and in performance.

My piano students range in age from as early as 4 to their early 80's. Some adults wanted to play piano all their lives and decided it was something they still had to do. Everyone learns at their own tempo so we take the lessons at your learning ability. We move ahead as you grasp what we are studying. If you do not understand what steps a scale consists of, how can you play it? If you know the patterns in music, you can understand the basics of playing the piano. My grade school kids can read, write, sing, and play chords. I stress theory and use a great theory book along with the Alfred series.

I have adults who have studied piano for years and come to me not knowing the first thing about scale patterns, chord patterns, intervals, key signatures, intermediate to complex rhythms. Adults who study with me for more than a year can play complex rhythms, sight read basic literature, play their scales in the circle of 5ths, and can write a simple song.

Everyone is treated as an individual because no 2 people are alike. You are unique and will be treated as such.

I am a tough, funny, and professional teacher who takes her teaching VERY seriously. I make this process fun through laughter and major pats on the back for improvements.

  • "Sharon is enthusiastic!"

Review of Piano Lessons, March 11, 2009

Sharon approaches our lessons with vivacity and enthusiasm. She creates a comfortable atmosphere that is open to mistakes, laughter, and learning. Her ability to pinpoint miniscule adjustments to make - her knowledge of the way the body works together - is amazing. As a hip hop artist, Sharon consistently tailors her explanations and lessons to be most useful for what I am trying to achieve. Her vast musical experience has allowed her to help me improve not only as a vocalist, but as a performer and artist as well.
