The Treasure Of Music includes weekly private piano and/or composition lessons and a one hour monthly class for all enrolled students.

The monthly class begins with a brief presentation of a composer from a particular Era. The music of the composer is presented on a CD for the class to hear. Students learn how to listen to classical music. A discussion usually follows.

Theory is a systematic view of music. Various subjects pertaining to theory are discussed. Often the content pertains to a particular work that a student may be learning.

Prior to the performance section of the class some tips are presented to help students conquer the butterflies/jitters. The class is then brought to a close with each student performing one or two selections.

Following the class, a Social Hour is enjoyed by both students and the parents attending.

Review of BJ Rosco, July 30, 2009

Ms. Jeanie taught me for about two years while I lived in Vancouver, WA. I was in second and third grade during those years, and I had previously had very little musical training. Under Ms. Jeanie's tutelage I learned an incredible amount during some very formative years, and playing the piano became the integral part of me that it is today. I deeply appreciate her willingness to challenge me, teaching through "real" music that I liked instead of an impersonal, formulaic piano course. I fondly remember the excitement of monthly recitals where we, her students, would mingle among music and punch. She scheduled the last of these that I attended so I could still catch it the day before I moved away (at least that's how I remember it, though I was little and it was long ago), and this sort of personal warmth and kindness permeated my every interaction with her. I'm honored to have been her student.

    Teacher's Response:

Alex, it is so good to know you enjoyed your piano and composition lessons. Yes, it was long ago, but you were one of my favorite students. Having said that, I enjoyed your intelligence, high energy and willingness to learn something new. Your mother and father were such a great couple.and so supportive of your musical progress. I knew you were going to be a winner from the very beginning. I am pleased that those formative years of lessons and classes paved the way for your continued interest in music. . You were truly a pleasure to teach and so much fun.. Thank you so much for your review. I am humbled, and honored as well. My very best wishes for the success of your new endeavor whatever it may be.

  • "A 5 Star Instructor without Question"

Review of BJ Rosco, July 26, 2009

As a pianist since kindergarten, I feel being a student of Miss Jeanie has been quite an honor. She has greatly enriched and advanced my music learning. Miss Jeanie is a patient teacher who upholds high expectations and is very dedicated to her work, but never fear, she also has a very easy going personality. Miss Jeanie is very attentive to details and has the great ability of appropriately assessing her student’s level of learning; in her studio, I learned countless pieces that were an excellent challenge, but also interested me. She provided a very well rounded music education that I cannot thank her enough for.
Often missing from piano training is 20th century music and music theory. Being a talented 20th century composer herself, Miss Jeanie has incorporated modern music into my palette of learning. There is also nothing more amazing than having the composer available to tell you her exact thoughts and feelings as you learn a new piece. This is a privilege that very few students ever get to experience and I’m lucky to be one of the few. On the note of music theory, my high school piano teacher would often commend me for my expansive knowledge in music theory for which I can attribute to Miss Jeanie’s teaching.
In addition, Miss Jeanie showed me piano isn’t just about solo performances. As a student, each year I worked on a concerto and Christmas duets; I gained experience in teamwork, performing, and being an accompanist. These are important skills that aren’t restricted to just piano playing.
To put the cherry on top, Miss Jeanie taught monthly classes on various composers and provided performance experience. Most people fear standing in front of an audience and I was no exception. The cliché ‘practice makes perfect’ accurately applies here. Miss Jeanie helped me to begin gaining a better grasp of my nerves and it’s something adjudicators have often noted on my comments.
Miss Jeanie teaches with a high degree of professionalism, knowledge, and passion for music. She expects her students to make the commitment to learn and practice hard, but the result is an exceptional learning experience. Although now entering college, I do not have plans to become a concert pianist, I am very thankful for Miss Jeanie for providing me the means to enjoy music for the rest of my life.
