Writing Poetry

Students come to understand the writing of poetry through both writing and the reading of classic and contemporary poetry. The instructor has taught Nature Writing, but is also interested in teaching about contemporary poetics and the exploration of new modes of thought and feeling. What I teach most of all is that poetry is a creative and mythic act which leads us to an understanding of ourselves, a way to map the inner landscape and preserve it.
