Violin instruction - individual lessons

Portland, OR

Subject: Violin

I teach classical violin, mostly traditional European method. I also teach Suzuki method to the very young. I do not offer any group classes at this time.
In lessons I will help you bring out your creative musical expression no matter what level you are, whether it is Twinkle, Twinkle or a Mozart Concerto.
We will also focus on proper posture and clean technique because without these necessities it may be difficult to reach your full potential. In addition we will also work on improving your sightreading skills, necessary for any orchestra player.

Violinist Lucia Conrad is currently a concert master of the Willamette Falls Symphony in Oregon City, associate principal violinist in Salem Chamber Orchestra and a member of the classical revolution PDX.
Lucia has appeared in both the United States and Europe as a soloist and chamber musician. She has worked as a freelance symphonic musician in central Europe, touring since a very young age with symphony orchestras, such as the Gustav Mahler Jungend Orchester directed by Claudio Abbado.

After settling in the US she has been a member of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, the Millbrook Chamber Orchestra, the Pan American and the Alexandria Symphony Orchestras. She has also played with the Lake Charles Symphony, the Beaumont Symphony and the Symphony of Southeast Texas.

As a soloist she has performed at the Lyceum, the Strathmore Hall, the Czech Embassy, the Residence of the Ambassador of Germany, in addition to many other recital halls in the DC metropolitan area. She has performed with the Apollonian Chamber Players, the Friday Morning Music Club and in the Mosaic Concert Series.

Lucia is a champion of contemporary music and performs new works as much as she can. Among her favorites are modern dance work Tensile for violin, flute and piano by Ron Coleman, Contemplation by Ron Coleman and Ash Wednesday I and II for String Quartet and a soprano by Sidney Bailin.

She also works as a freelance violinist with her 1788 Casper Strnad violin and her Zeta electric fusion violin. Her Fleur-de-lis String Quartet performed for the First Lady of the Republic of Poland (in 1999) and for the President Lech Walesa (in 2000).

She has earned two degrees in violin performance from Prague Conservatory and the Catholic University of America plus a degree in pedagogy. Among her teachers were Robert Gerle, Howard Beebe and Frantisek Pospisil. She won a full scholarship to the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Institute where she studied with Luis Haza.

Lucia completed her Suzuki Teacher Training with John Kendall. Lucia was a faculty member of the DC Youth Orchestra until September 2005. She has also founded and directed Musical Sundays in Maryland, a chamber music program for young musicians.
