We use every kind of book: superhero, animal, engine, jokes, flash cards and books we write during lessons to get kids excited about reading. We have phonics put to songs that we sometimes use or we go along with the school curriculum when that's needed. We strive to keep the hour engaging by mixing book reading with reading games and writing. Mothers have told us that kids sing our songs to themselves at home! When kids struggle with reading, teaching this skill takes a lot of energy--tutoring is a great solution. We work with kindergarteners through 2nd grade and also with higher grades on the advanced skills: word roots, prefixes and suffixes.

Review of Independent Excellence Tutoring, April 01, 2009
This tutor really helped my boy who struggles with autism. She has a great book of phonics songs and stories that helped him to finally understand reading. He continues to get tutoring and to sing the songs at home, to himself. It's a great way to teach reading!
