Through lectures, class projects and homework assignments, this class will address the issues of being an artist/entrepreneur or running an art-related business. You will learn to manage a budget, cope with the volatility of unpredictable revenues, understand the basics of the investment marketplace and balance the competing demands on your time and money.

The class will also address taxation and strategies, structuring business ownership, and planning for retirement. Particular emphasis is placed on approaching finances with the creative side of the brain and on developing each student's financial well-being. Guest lecturers will discuss recordkeeping and tax-filing for art-related business owners, art insurance and business planning for creative entrepreneurs.

ARTroads, a San Francisco based, educational organization, is about exploring the many paths to creativity.

Pamela Rhodes is the director, instructor, and artist. She views each individuals' work of art as an expression and the progress along each creative path as a language, enabling that expression.

Time, passion, energy and focus are the resources we all possess during our brief journey here. We can use these valuable treasures with respect and purpose if we simply allow ourselves to see; to see the world around us, the colors and creations, the values and relationships, the positive and negative, the new, the old and the just invented.

It is the mission of ARTroads to teach anyone willing to see that world to translate their vision. Translation occurs through individual artistic language into an expression of sight and self. We can then all see what each artist sees; what's there in our world. The simple act of drawing, painting, somehow recording what we see grounds us, it engages us, it documents our place, the things and the people in our lives.

Many people are afraid to "journal" artistically because they fear their skills are lacking. ARTroads is determined to provide the tools, inspiration and technique to allow everyone to develop the skills needed to translate what they see into their own art.
