Mia Nakano is a photojournalist who has been working in the photo industry for almost 10 years. She is an Arts Team founder of Hyphen Magazine, a photo-editor, and contributor to various publications throughout the West Coast. Over time, she has honed her skills working on projects in China, Japan, Nepal, and the US. Her work focuses on the culture of the communities that surround her. She investigates the GLBTQ communities both nationally and internationally. Currently she is a co-director of a community photography space in San Francisco, where she teaches digital photography courses and prints gallery shows for a multitude of photographers.

Through her contributions to publications such as Hyphen, Mother Jones, Curve and regional non-profits like Asian American Dance Performances, Women’s Initiative Fund, and Spin Project, Mia is able to lend her expertise both as a photographer and technology consultant to make social justices using media. Her background in photography enables her to produce a wide variety of work for a broad range of organizations, and her ability to work as a project manager, designer, photo-editor, marketing director, and photojournalist all at once makes her unique and slightly odd.
