SAT Test Prep Courses in Seattle
Posted by Scott Jacobson on September 04, 2009
School is back in session, and for high school juniors who plan to go to college, now is the time to start thinking about taking the SAT. If you are not a whiz at standardized tests, you may want to look into local test prep courses.
A recent study by the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) found that test prep courses yield a positive impact on SAT scores, in the range of 30 points. The study also finds that, while 30 points is not as big a gain as the claims made by some of the players in the test prep industry, relatively small improvements in SAT scores can have a significant impact on college admissions.
So if you are a high school junior or senior (or a parent of one), you should look into your options. A friend in Seattle recently asked if I knew anyone who had taken an SAT test prep course recently and could recommend (for or against) a particular program.
I don't have any high school age children, so unfortunately, I couldn't help. But I do know about Teachstreet :).
So I searched for SAT test prep in Seattle. Sure enough, they had 41 listings, more than ten of which had customer reviews.
Looks like there are private instructors like Seattle SAT Coaching, and more familiar names like Kaplan SAT Classroom.
For those of you Teachstreeters with kids who have recently taken an SAT test prep course in Seattle or elsewhere, what do you think makes for the most effective SAT test prep experience? Is one-on-one tutoring better than a small or large group session? Are there any good online classes?
