Have you ever needed to communicate with your dive buddy under water?
Waiting until your surface interval just to communicate can be frustrating. Whether you are having a problem or just want to point out something cool, keeping good communication with your buddy can make the difference between an "okay" dive and a "great" fun and safe dive.
Communication alternatives have limitations.
There are many forms of underwater communication on the market today, such as specialized gear and slates. Special gear is very expensive. Using slates can be awkward and slow. Even the hand signals commonly taught lack an adequate vocabulary to truly communicate effectively. Hand signals also can vary widely between agencies which can create confusion between two divers trained by different agencies.
SeaSigns is simple, inexpensive, and of broad scope.
SeaSigns offers a simple and inexpensive solution. Based on American Sign Language we have created a special vocabulary for scuba divers that is easy to learn and easy to use. Our vocabulary is much broader in scope than other hand signal methods.
Approved by scuba certifying agencies.
SeaSigns Safety Signing Diver class has been approved as a specialty course by PADI, SSI, SDI, NAUI, YMCA, NASE, and IAHD, recommended by HSA. This makes SeaSigns the most popular and widely used underwater communications system in the industry.
Why take class?
Take class to learn all signs correctly from a trained instructor. Receive a BC tag which identifies you as a certified SeaSigner. Possibly meet people with whom you can sign while diving.
Class is fun, easy, and can be taken almost any time.
People comment how fun and easy the class is. The classroom part of the Safety Signing Diver class requires about 4 hours classroom time to learn all 110 signs - if students have prepared by watching the video.

"A superb open water instructor"

Dave is an exceptional scuba instructor. I took my basic open water certification and drysuit certification with him, and I cannot say enough good things about the experience. In pool and classroom, Dave is awesome. This a guy who brings his A game to every single class, day in and day out, always helpful, enthusiastic, and genuine. As a teacher myself, I know how hard this is to do, and I really admire him for his skill at it. He's great at listening to his students, understanding their questions or problems, and providing helpful answers. And he's generous with his time. Some instructors are in and out of the pool in minimum time, just run through the drills and then home. Not Dave; he knew we'd learn best by getting comfortable in the water and, very importantly, playing in the water as well as drilling the various skills we need to know. That paid off well for us as students when we hit the open water, because we already had a lot of pool time and felt comfortable.
Doing my open water dives with Dave was an awesome experience. First of all, he was great in accommodating my schedule and very patient when I had to postpone the dives due to a cold and congestion. And then the dives themselves: we dove at Alki Cove 2, which he knows like the back of his hand. I felt completely comfortable diving with him (I hadn't felt nearly so positive about a previous instructor). The dives were great fun, he showed me a giant pacific octopus and many other underwater wonders, and to make a long story short I'm hooked on the sport and eager to do my advanced open water dives with Dave as well.

Review of DiveCanuck, August 10, 2009
Dave at Dive Canuck SCUBA Instruction is my fourth dive instructor and it was by far the best experience I've had. I became a PADI Scuba Diver in Mexico and Open Water Diver in Hawaii. Dave was just the thing I needed to transition to an Advanced OW Diver and making the switch to cold water and shore diving. I now dive regularly from shore with new dive buddies... Exactly what I was hoping to achieve!
For the advanced diver, he allows you to struggle a little with your gear and has plenty of patience while you make a fool of yourself so you don't have to do it in front of your new dive friends!
With small class sizes and flexible scheduling it's a great personalized experience and a great value. I have a few more classes already scheduled with Dive Canuck SCUBA Instruction!
