Description
My comprehensive method for developing basic skills is appropriate for bass students at every stage of learning. Each section starts with a tune, followed by exercises that address one or two fundamental skills that are helpful in mastering the tune, and are adaptable for use by brand-new beginners and by advanced students looking to break into a new level of playing.
We begin with simple tunes you've heard, moving gradually into more complex grooves, more involved harmonies, getting into diverse musical styles including latin, funk, jazz blues, rock. The core basics we work on in the beginning are the same across the board, so you can apply what I teach to whatever musical path you choose for yourself.
The course teaches physical basics: good form, reflexive training, timekeeping, the concept of wielding weight instead of relying on strength.
I teach professional survival skills, like reading, writing, improvising, and most importantly, advanced listening skills.
My theory/ear training course is unique. Think music yoga--experiential learning, felt sense, bodily understanding. I show that music theory is based upon acoustics and human physiology.
At the end of each lesson I give students mp3's and pdf's to practice with, loaded on your USB thumb drive.
