Description
If you’ve wanted to try an activity that takes you out on the water, gives you some exercise and you get to meet great people, come find out what Dragon Boating is all about! This is a wonderful sport that incorporates those things and more.
Dragon Boat season starts beginning of April each year. Dragon boating is an intermediate level activity that guarantees you will improve your upper body and core strength by the end of the season! If you are looking for a team environment with a lot of spirited ladies, this is it! You can 'try out' paddling (and also our team!) three times before making a commitment to join the team. Dragon boating is an exciting and challenging water sport that is comprised of twenty women (plus a caller and a tiller) paddling in unison to move long, narrow boats through the water.
The mission of the Team Survivor Northwest Dragon Boating Program is:
* To train women cancer survivors to safely paddle with the proper technique
* To increase fitness while having fun
* To compete in a sport that encourages teamwork and camaraderie
* To raise awareness of all types of cancers
* To challenge the fears associated with cancer
* To demonstrate that survivors can participate in active sports
* Practice Schedule: Practices from April - September
Where: Practices are held at Leschi on Lake Washington
When: TBD
Contact: Call our Program Manager Monica Strasen for more information at 206-732-8350
In partnership with Club SAKE, Seattle's local Dragon Boat Club, the program includes both recreational and competitive components. All new members are required to spend a year in the recreational boat before attempting to move into the competitive boats. All paddlers will have opportunities to compete in dragon boat races throughout the season.
We also offer a Beginning Dragon Boat Buddy program which matches new paddlers with an experienced member who helps to guide the 'newbie' through their first practices.
