Description
FREE preview screening of new documentary CHICAGO 10 followed by a panel discussion lead by local community leaders.
ITVS Community Cinema, the national outreach program of the Independent Television Service (ITVS), works to bring communities together and connect them with information, resources and opportunities for education, engagement and positive change. ITVS Community makes public broadcasting into a powerful resource for individuals, communities and organizations working on key social issues in Seattle, the Puget Sound, Washington State, and around the country.
Community Cinema Seattle was named "Best Film Series In Seattle" by Seattle Metropolitan magazine in July 2008, and we're still 100% free.
As with all Community Cinema Seattle events, CHICAGO 10 will include local Seattle activists and politicians in a post-film discussion and activity. Nationwide, over 60,000 people have attended over 800 Community Cinema events in cities large and small since 2005. The Community Cinema Seattle audience of socially conscious film lovers has grown 15% year over year since 2005.
Previous speakers at ITVS Community Cinema Seattle include King County Council Chair Larry Gossett, Seattle's first female fire fighter Bonnie Beers, local Sikh hate crime survivor Sukhvir Singh, Director of the Seattle Office for Civil Rights Julie Nelson, and Emmy Award winning filmmakers of A LION IN THE HOUSE Julia Riechert and Steven Bognar.
ITVS funds and presents award-winning documentaries and dramas on public television, innovative new media projects on the Web and the Emmy Award-winning weekly series Independent Lens on Tuesday nights at 10 PM on PBS. ITVS is a miracle of public policy created by media activists, citizens and politicians seeking to foster plurality and diversity in public television. ITVS was established by a historic mandate of Congress to champion independently produced programs that take creative risks, spark public dialogue and serve underserved audiences.
