Description
A history of Russia from Peter the Great to Gorbachev.
Not so long ago, the USSR was a great American preoccupation. What is the background for a transformation of the USSR into post-Gorbachev Russia? Under his successors will Russia’s development remain benign?
This three-term course of videotaped lectures and discussion - the videotapes narrated by Professor Mark Steinberg of the University of Illinois - continues in the Spring Quarter covering the USSR after Stalin, Private and Public Dissidence, and Mikhail Gorbachev - Perestroika and Glasnost. The balance of the meetings will take up chapters in And None Afraid: Soviet-Western Suspicion and Trusting from Red October to Glasnost Dialogue, a book published in 1991 by Henry T. Bernstein.
