Description
Beyond the names of the battles and generals, there lies within the story a series of failed attempts to reach political, social and economic compromise that could have avoided the war. During the war years we will see the Union's changing objectives and motivation, the near intervention of England and France, Lincoln's political dilemmas, the political and economic implications of several military campaigns, the collapse of the Confederacy and the war's legacy for the 20th century.
