Description

The vivid color and unique beauty of enameling has been prized for centuries. Cloisonné, with fine lines of precious metal delineating patterns and images, is appreciated around the world. The use of painting enamels is a straightforward way to add fine detail to your cloisonné or basic enamels pieces. In this workshop you will have the opportunity to explore both cloisonné as well as painting enamels. We will practice creating suitable designs for cloisonné, bend and apply the wires, then apply multiple layers of enamel, including painting enamels for detail. Ultimately we will fuse our pieces in a kiln, grind and flash-fire the finished enamels, thereby creating a gemlike images of lasting beauty. You will be provided with materials to complete at least one piece that can be worn as a pendant. No prior enameling experience is required; continuing students are encouraged to refine their skills.
