Class Style:
1:1 Private Sessions & Group Sessions

Description

In this money-saving workshop, students will make several simple tools and gain the skills to create and customize a range of tools for both the jewelry shop and more general uses. We will cover the shaping, hardening, and finishing of steel tools, as well as tool design and the making of nonferrous tools. Learning these skills provides the artist with a whole new range of options, allowing him or her to create or alter tools to suit the task at hand. Remember, you do not have to do without the tool you need. Students will be expected to bring earplugs and safety glasses. I also recommend aprons, bandanas, hair ties, and leather shoes to help keep students and their clothes clean. Students may bring old nail sets, old toothbrushes, old plastic cutting boards, small scraps of tool steel, and scraps of hardwood. Students will be provided with steel for making several simple tools. No experience necessary although basic metalworking skills helpful. 10:30am-5:30pm Saturday
