Description
This course is designed to train students in the art and science of audio engineering and sound reinforcement. Students will learn the concepts and applications of signal chain theory, sound wave science and acoustics, and be provided an abundance of hands on experience using the many tools available in a state of the art recording studio. Topics to be covered will include microphone technology and applications, microphone pre-amplification, compression/expansion, equalization, effects processing, digital and analog recording concepts, digital editing, and principles of mixing. In addition to the class time recording exercises students will have the opportunity to set up, record, and mix an endless supply of projects on a weekly basis, encompassing musical styles and instrumentation ranging from acoustic singer/songwriters to big band jazz to punk and heavy metal.
